The frequency of sound creates form and can influence the molecular structure of matter. The science of Cymatics demonstrates how sound can manipulate matter. In a number of experiments, researchers introduced powder, grain, water, paste, etc. to the vibration of the sound and witnessed these substances forming different geometric patterns according to the sound played.

Our universe is not silent. Due to the vacuum in space, the sound is actually not audible to human ears. But nevertheless, sound definitely exists. When the frequency of sound goes much higher, about 100 million times beyond our hearing range, it transforms into light. This has been proven in recent studies and the effect is called sonoluminescence.

Everything is energy, and energy is made of electromagnetic waves vibrating at different frequencies. We are energy beings vibrating at a frequency unique to every individual. The frequency of sound has a very powerful and direct impact on us. Sound can not only re-align a person’s emotional and subtle bodies but can also rewrite DNA and RNA genetic coding on a subatomic level.

Like how the sound of OM, raises our vibrations, the frequencies of sound can either de-stress us or create disharmony in our system. We know listening to soothing music helps us relax, whereas listening to jarring ones makes us anxious and uncomfortable. Healing sound can also dispel negative energy and cleanse a space and person. Temples and churches have bells for the same reason. When the bells ring, the sound brings the mind to focus on the present, clearing stressful thoughts, balancing the chakras and neutralizing the body, so that we can absorb the positive vibrations of prayers, mantras and the place itself.

Even words that we use every day carry vibrations. Words like love, gratitude, thank you, happy, etc., create a very positive vibe in our system that can alter our physical state of being and our DNA as well. Whereas words like hate, anger, loser, etc., create a very negative vibration in our system, bringing our immunity down and creating chaotic energy within us. This is why it is essential to be aware of the way we speak and the language we use, especially to ourselves because our body listens to us. Dr. Masaru Emoto, a Japanese researcher conducted several experiments on how words, songs, sound, thoughts and intensions can influence water. A human body comprises of 50% - 75% water, making us more receptive to vibrations and frequencies. Listening to mantras or any form of chanting also has a very powerful effect on us. When the mantras are chanted with the correct phonetics they alter our dynamics by raising our vibrations incredibly.

Chakra healing through sound

Different musical notes can be associated with respective chakras, helping to open, realign, balance and clear the chakras by playing at a particular frequency. For this reason, chakra tuning forks, crystal singing bowls and other healing musical instruments are each made with specific musical note or solfeggio frequency that correspond to respective chakras and are used extensively in sound healing practices and meditations as a part of alternative healing therapy. Tibetan bowls, gongs, bells, wind chimes, etc., are other forms of sound healing instruments.

Solfeggio frequencies

Originally, solfeggio frequency had only 6 notes. When sung or played in harmony, it can heal any imbalances and create a synergy between the mind, body and spirit, promoting physical and spiritual wellbeing, and initiating the human mind to a state of awareness to the universal consciousness.

The six main solfeggio frequencies are:

The solfeggio frequencies hold mathematic resonance. When the numbers in the solfeggio frequencies are reduced to a single digit using Pythagoras method of numeral reduction, the numbers 3, 6, and 9 are derived. These numbers represent nodes. Nodes create geometry which forms a platform or an outline for vibrations to manifest.

Binaural beats

The term 'binaural' means 'to hear with two ears’. Two different frequencies are played in different ears of a person at the same time (eg. 100 Hz in the left ear and 110 Hz in the right ear). This creates the mind to derive a third frequency that will be the exact difference created by the two frequencies (eg. 110 Hz - 100 Hz = 10 Hz), which transcends the mind to delta, theta, alpha and beta state of consciousness depending upon the derived frequency. It is a must to use headphones because binaural beats only work when two different frequencies are sent to each ear simultaneously.
